Welcome! I'm Courtney Tullock (he/him), a psychotherapist based in New York City.
About Me.

I'm Courtney Tullock (he/him), a psychotherapist based in New York City.
I started working in mental health a decade ago, as a caregiver and counselor for youth formerly in foster care. That work grew into a decade in nonprofits, including direct work with runaway and homeless youth, before I moved into private practice.
I grew up in the Bible Belt in religious environments, and that has shaped much of my early experience and the nuance I bring as a NYC therapist today, especially when serving folks who have been underrepresented.
I'm trans and queer myself, and I know there are as many ways to be trans as there are trans people. I don't assume your experience looks like mine, or like anyone else's. I strive to offer a space where sexuality and gender can be explored freely, without pressure to fit into a binary or a transmedical mold.
I believe most of us just want to be understood. Along the way, we pick up stories, some we tell ourselves, some others have told about us, and without noticing, we can start living inside them. A lot of my work is helping people untangle those stories and reconnect to their own values and their natural capacity to simply be.
My Approach.
I work from a psychodynamic and relational lens. The relationship we build together matters — it's the foundation of trust and the therapeutic alliance, and I take that seriously.
Depending on what's useful to you, I may draw on mindfulness or some DBT skills, like distress tolerance. But the through-line in my work is slowing down. So much of the world moves fast, and I work with a lot of neurodivergent folks who are navigating that pace while trying to make conscious, values-based decisions and build more honest, enriching relationships.
I'm also aware of how the mental health system itself has caused harm to many folks, many within my own community. If you're coming to me after a difficult experience with therapy before, I want to name that openly rather than pretend it isn't part of the picture.
Therapy is individual by nature, and it's hard to fully capture a process on a website. What I can say is this: opening up to another person, letting yourself be seen, understood, and met with curiosity, that takes real courage. It's not easy to take that risk. I don't take it lightly when someone lets me be part of that process, and I feel genuinely grateful when they do. This is your space, and you deserve to work with someone who feels like the right fit for you, whether that's me or someone else.
